T

homas “Tommy” Djiwandono was officially sworn in as a deputy governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) on Monday at the Supreme Court in Jakarta, marking the start of his 2026-2031 term in the central bank’s leadership.

The former deputy finance minister replaced Juda Agung, who resigned as BI deputy governor on Jan. 13. The two officials effectively swapped positions, with Juda having earlier been inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as deputy finance minister at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

Tommy was appointed under Presidential Decree No. 10/P of 2026 on the appointment of a Bank Indonesia deputy governor.

He was selected as BI’s new deputy governor after passing a fit-and-proper test at House of Representatives Commission XI on Jan. 26, defeating two long-serving central bank officials, Dicky Kartikoyono and Solikin M. Juhro, before being formally approved in the House’s plenary session.

During the selection process, Tommy outlined his support for a pro-growth monetary policy stance and proposed ending the burden-sharing scheme between the government and BI, which allows the central bank to bear part of the cost of financing the state budget.
