A classic Dewa 19 album is getting released on vinyl in a limited edition.
Indonesian legendary rock band Dewa 19 is pressing its first-ever vinyl, picking its acclaimed third album Terbaik Terbaik (The Best The Best).
Dewa 19 released Terbaik Terbaik on June 20, 1995 under Aquarius Musikindo. The album spawned several hit songs, such as “Cukup Siti Nurbaya”, “Satu Hati (Kita Semestinya)” and “Cinta ‘Kan Membawamu Kembali”, with Ari Lasso still serving as the lead vocalist of the band before his departure in the late ‘90s.
Terbaik Terbaik is now seen as one of the greatest albums in the history of Indonesian popular music—many praising its eclectic styles and range of sounds. The December 2007 issue of Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album at number 26 in its all-time list of the “150 Best Indonesian Albums".
"Terbaik Terbaik is my milestone as a music producer, arranger and composer,” the band’s leader Ahmad Dhani said in a VIDEO LEGEND YouTube video last year.
Shot to promote the band’s virtual concert for Terbaik Terbaik in May 2021, Ahmad Dhani and Ari Lasso talked about how hard the album was to make and how they started doing drugs to get in a better mood during recording.
“That album was one of the hardest for me to record since there were so many high notes I had to sing,” Ari Lasso said in the same video.
Almost all of the 11 songs in the album were written and composed by Ahmad Dhani while guitarist Andra Ramadhan contributed writing to several tracks.
One of the most celebrated rock bands in Indonesia, Dewa 19 had never previously released a vinyl, prompting some fans to make their own bootleg vinyl of the band’s greatest hits that went viral.
The pre-order for the Terbaik Terbaik vinyl is now open at the Aquarius Musikindo store and several other vinyl stores at the price of Rp 555,000 (US$ 37) with only 1,000 copies available.
Dewa 19 is currently embarking on a 30-year anniversary tour across the country as well as Malaysia, bringing together lead vocalists Ari Lasso, Once Mekel, Virzha and Marcello “Ello” Tahitoe.
