Despite protests from hardline conservative groups condemning the group's support for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer (LGBTQ) causes, Coldplay is scheduled to perform at Bung Karno Sports Stadium (GBK) in Central Jakarta on Wednesday night.
ritish band Coldplay shared photos of its members enjoying a walk in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, a day before the group's first concert ever in the city.
One photo posted on the band’s Instagram account shows singer and front man Chris Martin strolling barefoot on Jl. Galunggung, near the Setiabudi reservoir, with a caption that reads “epic walk in Jakarta”, while another shows Martin with band manager Phil Harvey on a pedestrian bridge on Jl. Sudirman.
In the photo, Martin is wearing a grey T-shirt, black shorts and a cap, while Harvey is in a black T-shirt. Both are smiling, and their shirts are soaked with sweat.
The post quickly elicited surprised and concerned reactions from Indonesian netizens.
Martin is known for his carefree spirit and has a history of walking barefoot in his Malibu neighborhood as well as in public places such as the streets of London.
Despite protests from hardline conservative groups condemning the group’s support for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer (LGBTQ) causes, Coldplay is scheduled to perform at Bung Karno Sports Stadium (GBK) in Central Jakarta on Wednesday night.
The concert has long been awaited by Indonesian fans, who previously had to go to neighboring countries such as Singapore or Thailand to see the band play. The announcement of a Coldplay performance in Jakarta triggered a ticket war earlier this year.
The group had been scheduled to perform in 2017, but the show was canceled because GBK, the venue the band was seeking for the concert, was under renovation ahead of the 2018 Asian Games.
After the Jakarta stop, Coldplay will continue to Australia for concerts on Nov. 18 and 19, then on to Malaysia for a show on Nov. 22.
