T

he highly anticipated Art Jakarta, a weeklong international showcase of contemporary art, is set to make its grand return this year from Nov. 17 to 19 at a new venue in the heart of Central Jakarta, promising a great experience for art collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Art Jakarta 2023 will be held in a sprawling 10,000 square meters of exhibition space at halls B3 and C3 of the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran.

An impressive lineup of 68 participating galleries, including 40 from Indonesia and 28 from Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Russia, the event is set to unveil the latest masterpieces from their artists.

Art Jakarta 2023 fair director Tom Tandio said the move to a larger venue allowed the event to engage more collaborations and bring in larger installations.

The fair has the support of Julius Baer, a leading Swiss wealth management group, as a long-term art patron, while UOB Indonesia continues its unwavering support for and promotion of the arts across Southeast Asia. Bibit, an award-winning homegrown digital investment app, has also committed to driving financial literacy and investment in the arts.

“We are especially proud to have the great support of a group of partners who are aligned with us, all of who will be showing collaborative projects or presentations with local artists in one integrated area. We believe this year's edition will exceed visitors' expectations,” Tom said.

Visitors can see the latest award-winning artwork, including the winners of the Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize in the Julius Baer VIP Lounge, while UOB Indonesia will be showcasing the winning pieces from its Painting of the Year competition. Asset storage platform Treasury.id is featuring the winning creations of the 2023 Treasury Art Prize, while local lifestyle, events and community engagement website Superlive.id will be presenting the works of its Supermusic-Superstar competition winners.

Art Jakarta partners will be presenting unique projects, such as Syagini Ratna Wulan's Glass House and iForte's tech-infused NOC/Turne by Jeffi Manzani. TACO, in a collaboration with Korean artist Park Jihyun, is introducing the Special Edition of Thomson Series, while Blue Label's IN/TOUNGE/IBLE offers an extraordinary sensory experience and MINI's The Mini Musa explores natural harmony.

AJX, Art Jakarta’s collaborative initiative with private institutions and companies, will showcase works like the ASEAN-Korea Partnership Project for Innovative Culture and the “Vice Versa” exhibition, featuring portraits of Indonesian artists by Indra Leonardi.

In addition to these special offerings with its partners, this year’s event will present Art Jakarta’s consistently outstanding programs such as SPOT. This art installation platform will be showcasing nine curated works in public spaces, including debut pieces like Jose Santos' personal construction-reconstruction and Nipan Oranniwesna's Neither Body nor Soul.

Plant a Tree, Plant a Life is an interactive space for children by Farhan Siki, winner of the 2022 UOB Indonesia Painting of the Year, who was commissioned to design the creative playground for Play by UOB Indonesia

SCENE supports the fundraising efforts of artist collectives and nonprofits, especially those based outside Jakarta, while AJ Talk serves as a platform for experts, observers, artists, collectors and curators to engage and share their experience and knowledge with visitors.

Other renowned arts figures will be featured in this year's AJ Talk, which includes book launches for titles such as Vice Versa by photographer Indra Leonardi and Illuminations by art critic Carla Bianpoen. Discussions will cover topics like the works of UOB Painting of the Year winners from various countries, as well as host a conversation on creativity with graphic designer Evan Wijaya and Samantha K. Jackson of Percolate Galactic.

Tickets are available for purchase starting on Nov. 1, exclusively at artjakarta.com.
