Terumo Smart Infusion Pump allows direct, nondisruptive care for speedier recovery

T

angerang, Banten – Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri (MRHP) in Karang Tengah, Tangerang, has added another line of advanced medical equipment that can contribute to the accelerated recovery of its patients with the introduction of the Terufusion® Smart Infusion Pump on March 21, 2024 by Dr. Benedictus “Ben” Widaja, President Director of Mandaya Hospital Group (MHG).

Ranked the best private hospital in Indonesia by Healthcare Asia Awards 2023 and the most comprehensive cancer hospital by CNBC Awards 2023, Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri is equipped with a broad range of innovative and advanced technologies, many of which are unique and the first of their kind in Indonesia.

The Terufusion® Smart Infusion Pump is the latest to join Mandaya’s medical arsenal, which includes the most advanced radiotherapy equipment from Elekta, vacuum technology for the treatment of breast cancer lumps, tumor mapping technology for cancer surgery, septin-9 screening tests for detecting colon cancer, robotic prostatectomy, nuclear medicine for thyroid treatment.

"The Smart Pump monitoring system can track the amount of infusion fluid delivered to the patient. When it is about to run out, it sends a notification to the computer at the nurse’s station.

“Its uniqueness is that the notification sound occurs at the nurse's station, not in the patient's room, so the patient can rest comfortably without any disturbances, and the nurse will come to replace the infusion fluid without the patient having to call them. This will undoubtedly improve the patient’s quality of rest, thereby also effecting faster recovery," said Dr. Ben.

Ben also explained that the infusion machine would sound an alarm if the infusion flow were disrupted, for example when the infusion line was blocked, kinked or became detached. Nurses would receive the notification at their station and respond immediately to restore the infusion flow.

"Patients no longer need to worry about their infusion fluid running out or the flow becoming interrupted. Our nurses will be ready to replace or repair it, even when the patient is fast asleep. This also ensures that patients treated at Mandaya are very safe and don't need to worry about their infusions," said Dr. Ben.

The Terufusion® Smart Infusion Pump also reduces nurses’ workload, as they no longer need to manually record the amount of infusion fluid used for each patient, minimizing administrative errors or mix-ups. They also do not need to make physical rounds to the rooms of each patient receiving infusion therapy to check fluid levels or potential equipment issues.

Mandaya hospital collaborated with PT Terumo Indonesia to install and operate the company’s Terufusion® Advanced Infusion System.

Ade Kresna Kemaltaba, President Director of PT Terumo Indonesia, emphasized that Terumo shared the same vision as Mandaya in its commitment to improve the quality of care for patients and their families.

"Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri uses many Terumo products, such as syringes, infusion pumps, disposable products, and heart and lung replacement machines for heart bypass surgery,” said Ade.

“Specifically for high-tech products, Mandaya is using a pump monitoring system that can be connected to an Android smartphone and Wifi network and is also integrated with Terumo's Smart Infusion Pump in an inpatient room. Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri is the first customer in the world to use this system. In addition, Terumo Indonesia is also very concerned about improving the capabilities of nurses by providing continuous training," he added.

Its flexibility and foresight in adopting innovative healthcare technologies sets apart Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, which also aims to reduce the number of Indonesian patients that seek treatment abroad.

Aside from advanced medical technologies, Mandaya offers a comprehensive healthcare services ecosystem to accommodate patients from outside Jakarta, including free patient pick-up services from train stations as well as 40 airports in Indonesia through collaboration with JOUMPA VIP Airport Services, and accommodation for patients’ families at partnering hotels.
