he National Police have named former internal affairs chief Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo’s wife Putri Candrawathi as a suspect in the premeditated murder of her own aide-de-camp, Brig. Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat.
“The investigators have conducted thorough investigations; [based on] available evidence, they have named her a suspect,” General Supervision Inspectorate chief Comr. Gen. Agung Budi Maryoto said in an announcement on Friday as quoted by Tempo.
Putri faces a primary charge of premeditated murder and a secondary charge of murder. Premeditated murder carries a maximum penalty of death or life in prison.
She is the fourth suspect in the case to be charged with premeditated murder. Police have named Ferdy, Brig. Ricky Rizal and Kuat Ma'Ruf as suspects with similar charges.
At the time of the incident, Ricky was on duty as an aide-de-camp and chauffeur to Ferdy's wife, and Kuat as chauffeur and house servant to Ferdy’s family.
Yosua was killed on July 8 in what the police initially claimed was a fatal shootout between him and another police officer, Second Agent Richard Eliezer, at Ferdy’s residence in Duren Tiga in South Jakarta.
The police said the altercation took place following Yosua’s alleged attempt to sexually harass Putri, in her bedroom.
The police have officially retracted that account, saying that there was no indication that Yosua was killed in a shootout and that there was sufficient evidence to conclude that Ferdy may have orchestrated Yosua’s murder and then attempted to cover up his alleged crime.
Richard is facing a charge of murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment.
Five officers, namely Brig. Gen. Hendra Kurniawan, Adj. Sr. Comr. August Nurpatria, Adj. Sr. Comr. Arif Rahman Hakim, Comr. Baiquni Wibowo and Comr. Chuk Putranto have also been named suspects in crimes of obstruction of justice
In the same announcement, the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) Director for General Crime Brig. Gen. Andi Rian Djajadi has secured CCTV footage that shows the situation before, during and after the incident around the crime scene in Duren Tiga.
The police initially claimed that not a single CCTV camera at the residence had been working during the incident. (dre)
