ebri Diansyah and Rasamala Aritonang, respectively a former spokesperson and a former senior official of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), held a joint press briefing on Wednesday to announce that the pair had joined the defense team of Ferdy Sambo and Putri Candrawathi.

The former National Police internal affairs chief and his wife have been charged under Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or the death sentence.

Febri and Rasamala told journalists that they had decided to legally represent Sambo and Putri to uncover the truth in the fatal shooting of police Brig. Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, who was on duty as Sambo’s aide when he was killed at Sambo’s official residence.

"My primary consideration is that Pak [Mr.] Ferdy Sambo has agreed to reveal the truth in the upcoming court trial," Rasamala said, as quoted by Kompas.com.

The former corruption investigator was one of 58 KPK employees who resigned last year after refusing to take a “civic knowledge test” mandated in the revised KPK Law as a requirement for being upgraded as civil servants.

Rasamala added that as ordinary citizens, both Ferdy and Putri were guaranteed the right to counsel.

Meanwhile, Febri said that he would remain objective in handling the criminal case against his client.

"After reviewing the case and meeting personally with Bu [Mrs.] Putri, I must state that I will be objective in serving as her lawyer," he said.
