he police are questioning 18 witnesses in relation to the suicide bombing at Astana Anyar sub-precinct police station in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday that killed a police officer and injured 11 people.

West Java Police criminal investigation chief Sr. Comr. Yani Sudarto said the police questioned six sub-precinct police personnel, nine residents and three relatives of the suspected attacker Agus Sujatno.

“Investigators are still digging in the relations of the three family members to the suspect,” Yani told a press conference at the Bandung Police headquarters on Thursday.

Yani said the attacker, who is believed to have been affiliated with the Islamic State-inspired group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), used a cooking pot bomb filled with nails.

The attack happened at around 8.30 a.m. when officers at the sub-precinct station were holding a roll call. Police officers tried to stop the perpetrator as he charged into the police station compound brandishing a knife.

Second Adj. Insp. Sofyan died in the subsequent explosion; 10 other officers and a local resident were injured. Two officers are still being treated, while another has been released from the hospital.
