A plenary meeting of the General Elections Commission (KPU) on Tuesday approved the voter list of 205,853,518 individuals who can cast their ballots in the country's 38 provinces and a number of voting stations overseas.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) published on Tuesday a provisional voter list for the 2024 presidential and legislative elections, which covers more than 205 million eligible voters nationwide.
A plenary meeting of the KPU on Tuesday approved the voter list of 205,853,518 individuals who can cast their ballots in the country's 38 provinces and a number of voting stations overseas.
KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said the list could still change as tabulators were still crunching numbers coming in from the regions.
"We need to understand that the numbers could still change. This is a provisional list and there will be corrections in the future," Hasyim was quoted by Antara as saying.
Data from the KPU show that 192.8 million individuals were eligible to vote in the 2019 election. More than 55 percent of the voters, or 85.6 million people, cast their ballots for incumbent President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
A total of 17 parties are expected to contest the 2024 election, which is more than the 14 parties that participated in the 2019 general election.
These political parties are now haggling over which politicians they nominate as president in next year's election.
