Yudhoyono, AHY hold meeting with Anies in East Java

Former president and chief patron of the Democratic Party Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and party chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono held a meeting on Thursday with NasDem Party presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, during which the three discussed the latest political developments in the country.
Antara reported that Anies arrived for the meeting at 1 p.m. on Thursday at a private museum dedicated to the late wife of Yudhoyono, Kristiani, in downtown Pacitan, East Java.
Prior to the meeting, speculation was rife that the meeting was held to strike a deal that would allow Agus to run alongside Anies as vice presidential candidate.
In recent weeks, three candidates have been tipped to become Anies' running mate in the 2024 presidential election. The three politicians are Agus, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and former West Java governor Ahmad Heryawan.
The Democratic Party has quashed speculation that the meeting in Pacitan was to seal the deal for Agus' joining the presidential ticket.
"In the meeting, we discussed more strategic issues. We didn't discuss technicalities on the declaration [of the presidential ticket," Democratic Party spokesman Herzaky Mahendra Putra told reporters.
As for the announcement of the vice presidential candidate, Herzaky said Anies and a team of advisors were still deliberating on options.
