Speaking after the meeting, Airlangga, who is also the chairman of the Golkar Party, said he had a close relationship with Ganjar and that they had been communicating regularly as the 2024 general election approached.
Central Java Governor and presidential candidate of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Ganjar Pranowo held a meeting with Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto in Central Jakarta on Monday.
Speaking after the meeting, Airlangga, who is also the chairman of the Golkar Party, said he had a close relationship with Ganjar and that they had been communicating regularly as the 2024 general election approached.
"I am an old friend [of Ganjar’s]. Because we're close, the signal is strong, otherwise it would be roaming," Airlangga said in a press briefing after the meeting.
Airlangga noted that Golkar was continuing talks with other political parties to build a coalition for the 2024 general election.
Responding to Airlangga's statement, Ganjar said he was close with the senior minister as they were both alumni of Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
"In this respect, I am superior to Pak Airlangga because I am the chairman of the alumni association," Ganjar said with a chuckle.
Ganjar noted that he was close with other prominent UGM alumni as well, including NasDem Party presidential candidate Anies Baswedan and chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar.
