Puan Maharani, who is also the daughter of party matriarch Megawati Soekanoputri, said that the PDI-P would not pick a vice-presidential candidate from any political party that is not a member of its coalition.
Senior politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Puan Maharani said that party leadership was coming close to choosing its vice-presidential candidate to run alongside Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo in next year's presidential election and has excluded West Java Governor Ridwan Kamal and Democratic Party chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) from the list.
Puan Maharani, who is also the daughter of party matriarch Megawati Soekanoputri, said that the PDI-P would not pick a vice-presidential candidate from any political party that is not a member of its coalition.
"The name AHY did came up, but his political party has decided to support Prabowo, so he won't be on our list. The same goes for Ridwan Kamil from Golkar Party, his political party has also decided to support Prabowo," Puan said, as quoted by Antara.
Puan, who is also Speaker of the House of Representatives, said that with Agus and Ridwan off the list, the party now has four candidates eligible to run alongside Ganjar.
The four candidates are State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, former Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Andika Perkasa and Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD.
Puan expects that the party leadership will announce Ganjar's running mate within a month.
"It's still a long way off, we still have another month before we announce the decision. Everyone expects a quick announcement, but every political party has their own calculations to make," she said.
