Jokowi arrived at the venue of the national meeting in Kemayoran, East Jakarta, on Friday afternoon and was also joined by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, who has been touted as a possible running mate for the party's presidential hopeful Ganjar Pranowo.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo joined chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Soekarnoputri in inaugurating the party's national meeting on Friday amid reports of tensions between the two over which presidential candidate to back in the 2024 election.
In his speech delivered to the meeting, Jokowi said that he endorsed the plan from Megawati and Ganjar, who spoke before the President during the event, that it is urgent for Indonesia to achieve food sustainability in the near future, given the volatility of the food market and the uncertain geopolitical situations.
"I can totally agree with Bu Megawati and the PDI-P presidential candidate Pak Ganjar. In fact, I just whispered to him that on the day after he is sworn in [as President] he should go for food sovereignty," Jokowi said.
Jokowi said that Ganjar and his team should immediately start drafting plans on how to achieve food sustainability. "Draft your plan now, so once you're sworn in you can begin the work," Jokowi said.
Media reports have speculated that the relationship between Megawati and Jokowi has deteriorated in the past few months, especially after the President made gestures that could be seen as endorsing the presidential bid of his Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
Many have also speculated that Jokowi has mobilized political parties in his ruling coalition to back the candidacy of Prabowo.
