Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) senior politician Puan Maharani on Thursday held a meeting with newly inaugurated chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Kaesang Pangarep to discuss possible collaboration between the two parties ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Over the weekend, Keasang expressed his intention to hold a meeting with PDI-P chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, but the party matriarch chose to send her daughter instead.

"Soon after returning from Malaysia, I reported to her that there was a letter from the PSI. Ibu Mega ordered that Mas Kaesang be received by Mbak Puan, and that was a direct order from Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri," PDI-P secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto said, as quoted by Antara.

Hasto said that it was fitting that a young politician like Kaesang meet another young politician like Puan.

"After all, the relationship between Mbak Puan and Mas Kaesang, as well as Mas Gibran, is like that of siblings," Hasto said, referring to Kaesang's older brother Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Hasto declined to comment on whether Megawati would be willing to receive Kaesang in the future.

"The two have often met at the State Palace. In fact, Bu Megawati attended Kaesang's wedding," Hasto said.
