The General Elections Commission (KPU) said on Monday that it would recruit 5.7 million local poll administrators (KPPS) for the 2024 election.

Parsadaan Harahap, the coordinator of human resources, organization, education, training and research development at the KPU, said each polling station would have around seven administrators. Across Indonesia, there will be 820,161 polling stations.

To help Indonesian citizens living abroad, the KPU plans to recruit 12,765 administrators across 128 countries. These administrators are also Indonesian citizens.

Furthermore, the poll body said it has also established the KPU Member Information System and the KPU Ad Hoc Agency (SIAKBA) application at siakba.kpu.go.id for the 2024 election administrator registration.

The SIAKBA application is hoped to simplify the registration process for election organizing officers, including for the district polling committee (PPK), subdistrict polling committee (PPS) and KPPS.

The KPU confirmed that poll administrators with certain health conditions, including high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes, should present health certificates issued by doctors during the registration process.

The poll administrators should be at least 17 years old, with an upper age limit of 55. They should never be affiliated with any political party or participate in campaign teams in their respective regions.

According to the KPU, local poll administrators’ wages will be increased next year.

“Thanks to government support, we can raise the wage of the KPPS head to Rp1.2 million [US$76.76] and of members to Rp1.1 million,” Parsadaan said, as quoted by Antara.

Parsadaan mentioned that during the 2019 election, the KPPS head only received Rp 550,000, while members received Rp 500,000. The KPU ensured that the state budget supported the wages.

In addition, his team is also preparing phone credit to support administrators when using mobile phones in their coordination.

“We are designing [a system] to ensure credit can be used on voting day with the proper amount of [internet] data [for the administrators] as they fulfill their tasks,” Parsadaan said.
