Hot on the heels of a heated presidential debate on Dec. 12, the vice presidential candidates will now step up to face each other in the second debate on Friday to tackle issues related to the economy, finance, tax, investment, trade and infrastructure.
The debate will involve Muhaimin Iskandar of the National Awakening Party (PKB), who is the running mate to presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is running alongside presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, the VP candidate to Ganjar Pranowo.
The second debate is the last the nation will see this year before three additional debates on Jan. 7, Jan. 21 and Feb. 4 of next year, which will all have different themes.
The camps of all three VP candidates have said they are ready for the Friday debate.
“After returning home [from umrah or minor haj], Muhaimin will prepare [for the debate] and we think he is at the same level as Anies in dialogue and debate,” Usamah Abdul Aziz, a spokesman for the Anies-Muhaimin campaign team, said last week, as quoted by Antara.
Muhaimin returned to Indonesia on Sunday after going on the umrah pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia last week.
Gibran also briefly expressed his readiness at the Surakarta city hall last week.
