Apart from expanding moderators' roles and limiting the number of microphones used by candidates, the General Elections Commission (KPU) has also added the subthemes of globalization and international politics for the upcoming debate.
After much tinkering following technical complaints from candidates and their campaign teams, the General Elections Commission (KPU) is expected to introduce several updates for the third presidential debate slated for Sunday.
The televised third debate, held at Istora Senayan in Jakarta, will see presidential candidates Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo share the stage again following the first debate on Dec. 12. Topics covered in the debate will be foreign affairs, geopolitics, defense and security.
The previous debate, held on Dec. 22, involved the vice presidential candidates, namely Muhaimin Iskandar, Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Mahfud MD, which covered the economy, investment and trade.
The election organizer decided to make several technical adjustments after complaints from each camp following the second debate, which many deemed rather tame in comparison with the first one, when candidates got into heated discussions with each other.
Among the technical changes is the moderators’ role in the debate, where they can now help clear up a candidate’s question should it be deemed unclear by another candidate. The decision came after Gibran threw out an acronym-laden question to Muhaimin, which cost the latter’s turn to answer.

Moderators for the third debate on Sunday are GTV editor-in-chief Ariyo Ardi and iNews TV anchor Anisha Dasuki.
