The campaign teams for the country’s three presidential candidates say they have prepared carefully for the last debate of the 2024 election, which experts say could be instrumental in determining whether the race will go to a runoff vote.
The fifth debate, to be held on Sunday and broadcast live from the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Central Jakarta, will be the third time presidential candidates Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo go up against each other in the format.
The event will cover the topics of technology, public services, education, culture, health and human resources.
Heading into the debate, Ganjar, who is backed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said he was “optimistic” about his chances of putting on a good performance.
“I’m ready, particularly since the issues are closely related to the ones I have implemented in the past 10 years as governor [of Central Java],” Ganjar said on the sidelines of a campaign event in Maluku on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
