T

he House of Representatives’ leaders claimed that they had not yet received a letter from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo listing the names of candidates for Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leadership.

When asked about whether the legislative body had received the presidential letter about candidates for the KPK leaders and supervisory council, House Speaker Puan Maharani answered shortly, as quoted by Antara: “Not yet.”

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) refused to answer when journalists asked further whether the House speakership had heard about the letter.

On Tuesday, five days before he will step down from the presidency, Jokowi told reporters that he had signed a letter containing a shortlist of candidates for the antigraft body’s leadership and supervisory council.

“I have signed the letter. We have limited time,” the President said on the sidelines of his work visit to Aceh on Tuesday.

Presidential special aide coordinator Ari Dwipayana later on the same day said in a statement that Jokowi had also sent the letter to the House on Tuesday, two weeks after the selection committee handed over the candidates’ names to the President.
