T

he West Sumatra Police have arrested a police officer on a premeditated murder charge after he shot dead a fellow officer in a case allegedly linked to an illegal mining operation in the province.

South Solok Police criminal investigation director Adj. Comr. Ryanto Ulil Anshari was shot dead by his colleague Adj. Comr. Dadang Iskandar at around 12:43 a.m. on Friday.

Dadang, who heads the South Solok Police’s operations division, shot Ryanto from close range in the headquarter’s parking lot, hitting him in the temple and cheek. The victim was immediately taken to a hospital to receive treatment, but was later pronounced dead by doctors.

The shooter fled by car, but surrendered himself to the West Sumatra Police in Padang later on Friday. The police arrested him and charged him with violating Article 340 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on premiditated murder, which carries a maximum punishment of the death penalty.

Investigators slapped Dadang with the premeditated murder charge after interrogating the perpetrator and witnesses, as well as investigating the evidence, such as the number of bullets Dadang was carrying when he shot Ryanto.

“He brought two magazines with 15 and 16 bullets in each of them, while also carrying an additional 11 bullets in his pocket,” said West Sumatra Police general crimes director Sr. Comr. Andri on Saturday, as quoted by Antara.
