undreds of families in Batu Basuak village, Padang, West Sumatra, have been isolated after another flash flood struck the area on Sunday, marking the fourth such disaster to hit the region since last month.

The latest flooding inundated multiple homes and completely severed the village’s only access road. Floodwaters eroded a section of road near the Batu Basuak Bridge, cutting off about 100 meters of roadway after the river changed course.

Zalhendri, a 51-year-old resident, said villagers are now forced to climb a hill and walk 160 to 200 m along steep and slippery terrain to enter or leave the village.

“About 300 to 400 families are isolated. We hope the government will act quickly to restore road access,” Zalhendri said on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.id.

The flash flood has further worsened living conditions for residents already affected by previous disasters. Sick villagers have had to be carried on makeshift carts by Indonesian military personnel to reach health facilities. Others are struggling to purchase basic necessities or collect aid from outside the village due to the damaged road. The situation has been compounded by ongoing power outages.
