An internal investigation previously found that Bahlil violated several of the university’s academic standards, such as using data without permission from the sources and concluding the program in less than four semesters as required.
nergy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has around eight semesters, or four years, to revise his controversial doctoral dissertation after the University of Indonesia (UI) found him committing ethical violations in the writing of his thesis.
An internal investigation previously found that Bahlil violated several of the university’s academic standards, such as using data without permission from the sources and concluding the program in less than four semesters as required.
UI’s rectorate, academic senate, board of trustees and board of professors later deliberated the investigation findings. They concluded that the minister had committed ethical violations and ordered him to revise his thesis paper to “improve the quality of the dissertation and the methods used”.
Bahlil is also expected to issue a public apology to the UI academic community.
A university spokesperson, Arie Afriansyah, said on Wednesday that Bahlil had until the end of his study period to rework his thesis.
A UI regulation on doctoral programs stipulates that the maximum study period for a doctoral student is 12 semesters or six years.
