ationwide online gambling transactions during the first quarter (Q1) of 2025 has slumped 80 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK).

PPATK head Ivan Yustiavandana said around Rp 47.9 trillion (US$2.9 billion) in financial transactions linked to online gambling was recorded between January and March, down from Rp 90 trillion during the first quarter last year.

He attributed the decrease to coordinated intervention by authorities including the PPATK, the Communications and Digital Ministry, the National Police, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia.

“The communications minister has been aggressive against [gambling] websites, while the National Police chief [Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo] has also” taken stronger measures, Ivan told reporters on Thursday as regards the government’s risk-based mentoring program (Promensisko), as quoted by Antara.

If the declining trend continued, he said, online gambling transactions could fall to below Rp 160 million by the end of the year.
