View all search resultsThe Social Affairs Ministry has welcomed its first batch of principals to a training retreat as it continues to recruit staff to manage the financial affairs of all schools under the Sekolah Rakyat program.
rincipals of the Sekolah Rakyat (community school) program for poor students are taking part in a five-day training retreat organized by the Social Affairs Ministry in Jakarta over two sessions, with the first starting on Tuesday.
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah “Gus Ipul” Yusuf and his deputy Agus Jabo Priyono led the retreat’s opening ceremony held on June 17 at the ministry’s Professional Education, Training and Development Center in Marga Guna, South Gandaria, South Jakarta.
“You have passed the selection from [among] so many candidates,” Saifullah told the principals, who wore battle dress uniform and baseball caps in army green, Kompas.com reported.
“Now it is time for real action so that our works will have an impact,” he said, emphasizing that being a Sekolah Rakyat principal was a huge service, not a mere position.
“Sekolah Rakyat is the President’s idea, a big mandate for us,” the minister said. “Principals are the extension of that noble goal.”
The principals’ retreat will provide instruction in inclusive and human rights-based education, social empathy, boarding school management, caregiving guidance, school administration and the Sekolah Rakyat curriculum.
The Sekolah Rakyat program, which aims to provide education to children from disadvantaged or underprivileged families, was among the promises Prabowo Subianto made during his presidential bid last year. He also promoted an idea to establish Sekolah Garuda (Garuda school) for high-performing students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
