T

he family of a Chinese tourist who was killed in a boating accident in Bali took legal action by filing a police report against the operator of the Dolphin II fast boat for alleged negligence.

“We are accompanying the wife and parents of Hangqing Yu to file a police report against the Dolphin II fast boat operator for alleged negligence leading to the death of other people,” lawyer for the victim’s family, Haryadi said on Sunday, as quoted by kompas.com.

He said the victim’s family believed there was negligence in the accident because the skipper ran the boat at high speed.

Hangqing Yu was one of three victims who perished when the Dolphin II fast boat capsized in the waters off Sanur, Denpasar city, Bali, on Aug. 5. The two other victims were another Chinese tourist Shi Guo Hong and boat crew I Kadek Adi Jaya Dinata.

The fast boat was carrying 75 passengers and five crew members and was about to enter Sanur Port when it was hit by high waves at about 3 p.m. local time.

Haryadi said the victim’s wife revealed the trip took about 60 minutes when they departed Sanur Port to Nusa Penida Port in Klungkung regency. However, the trip back only took some 30 minutes.
