T

he North Sumatra Police foiled an attempt to traffic people by hiding 36 migrant workers inside an anchovy warehouse before sending them to Malaysia illegally.

Detectives from the General Crimes Directorate (Reskrimum) apprehend the migrant workers in Silo Baru village, Silau Laut district, Asahan regency.

Reskrimum director Sr. Comr. Ricko Taruna Mauruh said the 36 illegal workers had been sheltered in the warehouse for several days before being sent to Malaysia. The plan was to transport them in the early hours of Sept. 28.

“We managed to secure the illegal workers from the warehouse before they were sent to Malaysia,” Ricko said at the North Sumatra Police headquarters on Tuesday.
