T

he Central Java provincial administration is planning to establish at least one Garuda School each year, following the recent conversion of two schools in the province into part of the new elite school network.

Governor Ahmad Luthfi announced the initiative on Wednesday, stating that the plan will be included in the province’s official development roadmap starting next year.

“We will propose the expansion to the central government. The more top-quality schools we have, the better. We want our students to dream big, and we hope Garuda School alumni will become the future leaders of Central Java,” Luthfi said.

The Garuda School initiative was officially launched on Wednesday as a flagship education program under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.

Overseen by the  Higher Education, Science and Technology Ministry the program aims to prepare students for admission into the world’s top universities while nurturing high-achieving talent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

At the launch event, the ministry introduced 12 “transformative” Garuda High Schools selected from existing institutions and announced the construction of four new Garuda Schools across the country.
