entral Java and Yogyakarta provincial administrations are assisting university students from Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra affected by natural disasters in the northern part of Sumatra.
Preliminary data shows there are 107 students from Aceh, some 200 students from West Sumatra and more than 100 from than North Sumatra studying in Central Java. More identification is needed so all students are registered and can receive assistance.
Central Java Governor Ahmad Lutfhi visited the students at Aceh Students’ Dormitory on Jl. Iwenisari in Tembalang district, Semarang, on Monday. He dubbed himself as a “father” for all students and asked them to focus on their studies until they graduate.
He also ensured all students’ needs would be met by providing logistics aid and that he will cover boarding fees for three months. There is also assistance for tuition fees.
“This assistance and attention is part of the Central Java’s provincial administration’s care for natural disasters happening in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra,” Luthfi said.
For tuition fees, the governor has asked rectors of high learning institutions to provide ease of payment while the provincial administration will also provide assistance.
“You are not alone here. I will guarantee all studying activities in your places. So you have a father here,” Luthfi said.
