P

olice in Riau have foiled the transportation of timber products from illegal logging in two separate operations in Kuantan Singingi and Rokan Hulu regencies.

In the first operation on Dec. 11, detectives from Kuantan Singingi Police apprehended a truck carrying processed timber without a forest product permit (SKSHH).

The truck was intercepted when passing Koto Kari village in Central Kuantan district.

Kuantan Singingi Police chief of detectives First Insp. Gerry Agnar Timur said the truck was intercepted after receiving a tip off from the public that a truck was carrying processed timber from the neighboring Sijunjung regency in West Sumatra.

“A team lead by Mobile Detectives Unit chief Second Insp. Lukman was deployed to check the information,” he said on Wednesday. “At about 4:10 a.m., the team found and halted a yellow Mitsubishi Canter truck along the Lubuk Jambi-Kari road in Koto Kari village.”

“We appreciate the public’s active role in providing information so we could handle the case swiftly and accurately.”
