olice have arrested six people suspected of illegal logging activities in the border areas of Pelalawan and Indragiri Hilir regencies in Riau after an operation lasting a week.
The suspects, identified only as AP, Z, F, ES, R and EK, are all residents of Pulau Muda village, Pelalawan regency. Each reportedly had a specific role, such as team leader, cutter and transporter etc.
Pelalawan Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. John Louis Letedara said the operation was successful thanks to the hard work of detectives under Adj. Comr. I Gede Yoga Eka Pranata.
“The detectives’ chief worked relentlessly since the evening of Nov. 23,” John said on Monday.
John said the illegal logging activities were revealed thanks to tip off from the public.
A team of Pelalawan Police detectives immediately swept several canals in peatland up to the edge of the forest in Pulau Muda village.
“The sweep on the first day was hindered by limited time and the presence of wildlife,” he said.
