Jakarta is set to host the first Colombian Film Festival at CGV Blitz in Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta, on Dec. 2-4.
Initiated by the Colombian Embassy in Jakarta, the event will feature five films and documentaries that portray Colombia’s magic, traditions and history, such as El Abrazo de la Serpiente (Embrace of the Serpent) by Ciro Guerra, Colombia Magia Salvaje (Colombia Wild Magic) by Mike Slee, Los Viajes del Viento (The Wind Journey) by Ciro Guerra, Del Amor y Otros Demonios (Of Love and other Demons) by Hilda Hidalgo, and Gabo: La Creación de Gabriel García Márquez (Gabo: The Creation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez) by Justin Webster.
The award-winning film El Abrazo de la Serpiente is slated to open the festival on Dec. 2. Shot in black and white, the film follows the friendship and adventure of two scientists and Amazonians in the Amazon rainforest, Colombia, according to Antara news agency.

Meanwhile, Colombia Magia Salvaje is a documentary about Colombia’s nature and Los Viajes del Viento is a drama about a vallenato (a music genre in Colombia) musician Ignacio Carrillo who is followed by a young boy who wants to learn music from him. The festival will close with Del Amor y Otros Demonios, which is based on a novel of the same title by renowned author Gabriel García Márquez, followed by Gabo: La Creación de Gabriel García Márquez that portrays the author’s life and work.
“Colombia is a country with rich natural resources and complex society; we want to be one of the cultural centers in the world,” said Colombian Ambassador to Indonesia Jose Renato Salazar, adding that the event aimed to showcase the country's visual production.
