oogle Indonesia celebrates maestro painter Affandi “Affandi” Koesoema’s 110th birthday by posting a doodle resembling his face and painting style on its homepage on Monday.
“The lines are similar to Affandi's strokes -- lithe and vibrant, with various colors that he used to use,” stated the company as quoted by kompas.com.
Born in Cirebon in 1907, Affandi was known as having a unique painting technique in which he painted directly onto the canvas using his fingers.

The painter reportedly had worked several jobs throughout his life. According to Affandi Museum’s official site, the maestro had worked as a teacher, usher and theater advertisement painter in Bandung.
He reportedly began to pursue his drawing hobby in 1940s, during the time where he joined the independence movement and later created a poster titled “Boeng, Ajo Boeng” (Come on Friends).
From the late 1940s to early 1950s, Affandi reportedly traveled the world to paint and showcased his works in cities across Europe, including Paris, London and Rome.
The painter passed away on May 23, 1990, after creating more than 2,000 paintings throughout his life. Some of his collections can be found in the Affandi Museum in Yogyakarta. (mas/kes)
