ne TV Asia, a subscriber-based TV cable channel owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment is set to air My Sassy Girl, a new Korean TV drama in the Asian region, including Indonesia at a simultaneous time with the Korean schedule. The drama is slated to air every Monday and Tuesday at 8.00 p.m. starting from May 29.

The 16-episode drama is a television adaptation of the original film released in 2001. It tells a story about a guy who accidentally helps a beautiful but eccentric girl and ends up having to take care of her. However, unlike the original film that was created in a modern setting, the new drama starring actor Joo Won and actress Oh Yeon-seo takes its setting in a traditional Joseon Dynasty background.

Virginia Lim, senior vice president and head of content, production and marketing at ‎Sony Pictures Television Networks Asia said the decision to air My Sassy Girl on the cable TV channel stemmed from the success of Scarlet Heart, a Korean drama broadcast last year.

“The incredible success of Scarlet Heart in the region proves the existence of strong viewer demand for same-time-as-Korea offerings,” she said. “Backed by its strong cast and experienced production team, we believe that viewers will be thoroughly entertained by this remake.” she added. Previously, My Sassy Girl was remade into a Japanese series and an American film in 2008.

The television adaptation version of My Sassy Girl is actor Joo Won’s last work before mandatory military enlistment on May 16. (asw)
