movie directed and written by an Indonesian, Kamila Andini, titled The Seen and Unseen is set to be premiered and compete with 11 other films at the Platform program of the Toronto International Film Festival 2017 slated for Sept. 7-17 in Canada.
The Seen and Unseen will be the only Asian film in the competition. Its rivals include movies from Europe, the United Kingdom and United States, including Brad’s Status starring Ben Stiller and The Death of Stalin featuring Steve Buscemi.
“The Seen and Unseen is my second long film,” said the 31-year-old director on her Instagram account, adding that the film took five years to make. “This time, it will have its world premiere and also compete at the Platform section of the Toronto International Film Festival.”

The Platform is said to be the festival's most prestigious program. The 2017 Academy Awards' Best Picture, Moonlight, was also premiered there.
The winner will be announced in a ceremony on Sept. 17.
The Seen and Unseen highlights Balinese culture regarding mixed-sex twins. It tells the story of 10-year-old Tantri who realizes that she will soon lose her twin brother Tantra. Among the film's cast are Thaly Titi Kasih, I Ketut Rina, Gus Sena, Ayu Laksmi and Happy Salma. (kes)
