A sequel to the Japanese live-action adaptation film Gintama is set to be released in summer 2018.
According to Anime News Network, the film's director Yuchi Fukuda and actor Shun Oguri announced the news during the official release of the film’s Blu-Ray and DVD in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday.

Since its premiere in July, Gintama has been a success, earning US$8.7 million in its first four days. The film has been screened in Canada as well as other countries, such as Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
Gintama is an adaptation of the popular manga by Hideaki Sorachi, serialized in the weekly magazine Weekly Shonen Jump since 2004. The story is set in an alternate-history Edo period in which the Earth was invaded by aliens. Among the main protagonists in the story are the eccentric samurai Gintoki Sakata (Shun Oguri), Shimura Shinpachi (Masaki Suda) and Kagura (Kanna Hashimoto). (kes)
