Indonesia, fourth highest number of Facebook users in the world

ocial media users have increased in numbers this year. According to the annual digital report released by We Are Social and Hootsuite, social media growth this year reached 13 percent with a total of 3 billion people as users.

From the report, it is stated that Facebook dominates the social media sphere. This year, active Facebook users make up two thirds of the market with more than 2.17 billion users. 

As quoted by Kompas, Indonesia has the fourth-highest number of Facebook users in the world. Up to January, there were 130 million accounts on the social network, or 6 percent of the total global users.

This makes Indonesia the Southeast Asian country with the most Facebook users.

For the highest number of Facebook users, India holds the record with 250 million, a 12 percent increase in the past year from 219 million active users.

Bekasi in West Java and Jakarta were reported as the cities with the largest numbers of active Facebook users. Bekasi ranks in third place with 18 million accounts, while Jakarta has 16 million accounts. Bangkok has the largest number of active users with 22 million accounts.

The growth of social media users is considered in line with the number of global internet users. This year, more than half the world’s population is connected to the internet. Still from the same report, it is believed that the increasing number of social media users has been prompted by equal smartphone distribution and network access. (wen)
