fter being slammed by netizens for comments she had made in an Instagram video of her visit to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, Germany, singer Syahrini responded to the backlash on Saturday with a lengthy statement on the photo-sharing platform.

In the caption to her newest post, which read “Dear all, my love for you is endless” on a black background, Syahrini starts off by claiming that she understood “the criticism about my Instagram [post] from the Holocaust memorial in Germany”.

• I Understand At The Criticism About My Instagram Posts From The Holocaust Memorial in Germany ! ... But I want to make it clear to everybody that I truly never meant to disrespect or offend anybody or anybody’s religion ... I went to the Memorial as a tourist and, like so many other tourists there, was amazed at the design of it and wanted to take pictures and video ... I now understand that this was not appropriate .. Also, in the video I posted on Instagram that has caused so much controversy, I did not Mean to Say “BAGUS” (Indonesian for “nice!”) to refer to the Holocaust, But to the impressive design of the Memorial ! ... Unfortunately, others have not been accurate in reciting what I actually said and meant ... Of course, the Holocaust was a horrible and terrifying tragedy – and the Memorial serves as a reminder to us all of how important it is to oppose aggressively all forms of hatred ... Racism and bigotry and how we must do our best to protect everybody’s human rights and religious freedoms ... If I had focused on that as I should have during my visit, I would have behaved in a different way ... I have learned from this experience and I hope others have learned from my experience too ! ... Hate, anger and jealousy are very dangerous components in society, history shows this and unfortunately currently still is showing in other parts of the world or even on social media as you have been seeing in some reactions on my post.We should be careful with this subject as it can lead to horrible situations ! ________________\\\\______________ #PrincesSyahrini #Budapest_24Maret2018 #Hungary

“But I want to make it clear to everybody that I truly never meant to disrespect or offend anybody or anybody’s religion... I went to the Memorial as a tourist and, like so many other tourists there, was amazed at the design of it and wanted to take pictures and video... I now understand that this was not appropriate,” she writes.

In the video post in question, which was uploaded on Thursday but has since been deleted, the singer could be seen walking through the Memorial while saying: “It is alright to take pictures, right? Isn’t it lovely, where Hitler killed so many people?”

She was immediately slammed by netizens, who said her comments had been highly inappropriate and “uneducated”.

In her follow-up statement, Syahrini adds that she had not been referring to the Holocaust when she said bagus (beautiful/nice), “but to the impressive design of the Memorial!”

“Others have not been accurate in reciting what I actually said and meant... Of course, the Holocaust was a horrible and terrifying tragedy – and the Memorial serves as a reminder to us all of how important it is to oppose aggressively all forms of hatred... Racism and bigotry and how we must do our best to protect everybody’s human rights and religious freedoms...”

“I couldn’t find any word contains ‘sorry’,” @kawalsampaihalal commented.

“Is this an apology? Lol shame on you princess,” said @classyfirsts.

“The point I got from your caption was ONLY EXCUSE. Please do educate yourself before visiting some places or doing something. You’re also normal people just like us that has to obey rules!” @nanatriaa said.

Meanwhile @wiinnyyandhika commented, “Well in the end, money can’t buy manners and attitude.” (kes)
