The judges consisted of screenwriter/director Salman Aristo, actor/producer Lukman Sardi, director Ifa Isfansyah, producer Robert Ronny, actress Marsha Timothy, actor Ario Bayu and actress Marcella Zalianty. 

Previously named the Indonesian Movie Awards and first held in 2007, the name was changed to IMAA in 2016. Television station RCTI has broadcasted the event live since its first ceremony.

Okezone reported that the movie Dilan 1990 had brought home a total of three awards for Favorite Newcomer (Vanesha Prescilla), Favorite Onscreen Couple (Iqbaal Ramadhan and Vanesha Prescilla) and Favorite Movie. (wng)
