Heavy metal band Seringai released its newest music video, “Selamanya” (Forever), on Thursday.

It was the band’s first in over 10 years, as they last made music videos in 2007, for the songs “Citra Natural” (Natural Image), “Mengadili Persepsi” (Judging Perceptions) and “Serigala Militia” (Wolves Militia).

Directed by Surya Adi Susianto, the video depicts the band performing inside a moving bus and being in close proximity to their excited fans. Once the bus finishes its route, the next lot of fans gets on board and Seringai paves the road again with their hard-hitting music.

Guitarist Ricky Siahaan told The Jakarta Post in a phone interview that the idea for the music video came from the band’s own experience, after being in the music scene since 2002.

“Over the years, we have been accustomed to being on tour, where most of our time was spent on a bus. We also have had our experiences of playing in small clubs where the crowd was right in our faces. It was full of sweat and chaotic. So, we wanted to convey that raw spirit in the video,” said Ricky.

While the band came up with the idea playing on a bus, Ricky added that Surya, the director, polished the idea into something akin to a theme park ride, in which the band never tires of playing music and entertaining their fans.

“It all boils down to passion and consistency. How after 16 years we are still here as a band and doing something that we love,” Ricky said. “Happiness is doing something you love year after year.”

Other than being known to having a keen sense of humor, as seen in their vlogs on YouTube, Seringai is also recognized for its biting lyrics on social and political issues. Their upcoming album is no different, Ricky said, what with the upcoming general election in 2019.

“In ‘Persetan’ (Damn), for instance, we want to show our objections toward hate and bigotry,” he added.

The new album will also feature pop jazz singer Danilla, a crossover that may come as a surprise to fans of both artists.

Being the producer for the album, Ricky said he pursued a better sound and that the band had put more thought into the compositions. “We want to deliver something complex in a simple way. I think Beach Boys nailed that perfectly.”

Seringai consists of vocalist Arian13, Ricky, bassist Sammy Bramantyo and drummer Edy Khemod. They have released two albums, Serigala Militia (2007) and Taring (2012). In 2013, they became the opening act for Metallica’s concert in Jakarta.
