At least 32 paintings by Hendra Gunawan will be presented at the exhibition "Hendra Gunawan: Prisoner of Hope".
iputra Artpreneur Museum in South Jakarta is set to showcase dozens of painter Hendra Gunawan's works to celebrate a century of his life and artistic journey from Aug. 4 to 16.
At least 32 paintings by Hendra will be presented at the exhibition titled "Hendra Gunawan: Prisoner of Hope", as well as works by other Indonesian artists that serve as a response to his works in "Spektrum Hendra Gunawan", reported tempo.co.
One of the event's curators and art observers, Agus Dermawan T, said the exhibition would be the biggest of its kind for Hendra.

"Only 21 works were featured in 1979's exhibition in Taman Ismail Marzuki; similar in Taman Budaya Bali. [The upcoming exhibition] will present more than 30 works," Agus told a press conference at the museum on Thursday.
Interestingly, Agus said most of the works showcased at the exhibition would be those created by Hendra during his time in Kebon Waru prison and after, which were rarely seen by the public.
Born in Bandung, West Java, on June 11, 1918, Hendra, who was recognized as one of Indonesia's most celebrated artists, had been involved in the Indonesian independence movement and went to prison without trial for 13 years. He died in 1983. (kes)
