kat Indonesia cofounder and designer Didiet Maulana recently shared his design for the Communications and Information Ministry’s jacket for the 2018 Asian Games on his Instagram account.

Didiet was assigned to create the jacket, and he combined the songket, Palembang’s traditional gold-threaded woven fabric, with the amplitude visualization of “Indonesia Raya”, the country’s national anthem in red, white and gold colors.

The designer explained in a press release that the songket design features three motifs, namely hand palms, the amplitude visualization and the mythical Garuda wings.

The palm shows five fingers, symbolizing five principles of Pancasila. This motif also resembles holding hands, illustrating unity and collaboration between countries participating in the Asian Games.

Meanwhile, the amplitude visualization symbolizes the struggle and spirit of independence. It also expresses the hope that the Indonesian athletes would have a similar spirit to win the competitions.

Lastly, the Garuda was chosen as the country’s national symbol. In Javanese and Balinese cultures, the bird represents virtue, strength, knowledge, discipline, courage and loyalty.

Didiet combined the motifs to resemble the Indonesian flag.

He mentioned that the colors were chosen to symbolize sportsmanship and honesty. (jes/wng)
