It’s common knowledge that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

People are more familiar with luxury pre-loved goods, resulting in an increase in the number of online secondhand stores.

However, finding authentic and good quality pre-loved items is not an easy task. There are three things to look out for prior to purchasing secondhand goods.

Seller reputation

Marisa Tumbuan, founder of luxury goods outlet Irresistible Bazaar, told Kompas.com that seller reputation is among the things buyers need to check when purchasing luxury secondhand items.

Marisa suggested buyers check the seller’s track record and credibility, adding that she also carefully selected sellers in order to ensure product authenticity.

Product authenticity

Marisa also suggested buyers research the products they want to buy. Small details, such as a bag's strap, could help to authenticate it.

She said that the information is available online, explaining that many YouTube accounts and bloggers frequently review luxury products.

Check the product's condition

Items that have been used, even once, are considered pre-loved.

To get good quality products, buyers are suggested to familiarize themselves with several terms, namely pre-loved excellent condition, like new, very good condition and need spa labels.

These terms indicate the item’s condition. For example, like new means that the products still looks good, while very good condition indicates that the product shows signs of wear.

Meanwhile, need spa means that the product has probably been used frequently and needs cleaning or minor repair. (jes/mut)
