Ernest Prakarsa shares that Cek Toko Sebelah is the first Indonesian film to be distributed in Chinese cinemas.
ndonesian comedy film Cek Toko Sebelah (Check the Store Next Door), starring and directed by comic Ernest Prakasa, is to be screened in Chinese cinemas.
Ernest announced the news on Tuesday, which he tweeted with five emojis of faces with tears of joy.

The day after, he tweeted, "According to my producer Pak Chand Parwez Servia from @Starvisionplus, Cek Toko Sebelah is the first Indonesian film to be distributed in Chinese cinemas. Hopefully it will serve as a good start for other Indonesian films!"

Released in 2016, Cek Toko Sebelah is Ernest's second film as a director. The movie was screened at the 2017 Indonesian Film Festival, with it being recognized as Best Original Screenplay, winning the Piala Citra. In total, it received nine nominations, including for best director and film. A series based on the film will be made, reported kompas.com.
Cek Toko Sebelah tells the story of a father, Koh Afuk (Chew Kin Wah), who wants one of his sons to inherit his shop. He has two sons, Yohan (Dion Wiyoko) and Erwin (Ernest). The family's harmony is later disrupted when Koh Afuk chooses Erwin, who has a more stellar career, to inherit the shop instead of Yohan. (kes)
