Providing services on behalf of the government, the PMI follows the six-hour principle, which means they have to arrive at the location within six hours after a disaster strikes, provide help using appropriate equipment from regional warehouses, operate rescue and medical vehicles, and organize water and sanitation support at their posts.
The PMI is also responsible for evacuating victims, setting up shelter, providing first aid, organizing public kitchens and distributing aid and donations.
