Cultural park opens in Semarang

The park will feature various programs such as free dance workshops and other performing art-related activities on a regular basis. The cultural stage is available to be utilized by art communities in Semarang, free of charge.

ollowing the success of Galeri Indonesia Kaya, the country’s first public space that combines education with a digital multimedia concept to promote Indonesian culture, the Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation has opened another public space, this time in Semarang, Central Java. 

In celebration of Galeri Indonesia Kaya’s fifth anniversary, the foundation and the Semarang city administration officiated the opening of the Taman Indonesia Kaya (Indonesia Kaya Park) cultural park, on Wednesday, Oct.10. In attendance were Semarang Mayor H. Hendrar Prihadi, SE. MM, Deputy Mayor Ir. Hr. Hevearita G. Rahayu, Djarum Foundation president director Victor Rachmat Hartono and Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation program director Renitasari Adrian. 

“Taman Indonesia Kaya is the result of our collaboration with the Semarang city administration and is part of our commitment to introducing Indonesian culture to the public, the younger generation in particular, so they don’t lose their identity as Indonesians,” Victor said in a press release.

“We hope the park will cultivate more artist in Central Java who will contribute more to the creative industry in Indonesia,” Victor added.

The public park features an open-air stage for art performances as a platform for expression for artists. The 5,000-square meter area is ready to welcome the public starting Oct.11. 

“Taman Indonesia Kaya is located in the city center and it gives a new color to Semarang. It will be the new home for Central Java-based artists to hold various arts and culture activities. Hopefully, art communities and artists in Central Java will be more inspired to promote Javanese arts to bigger audiences nationwide,” said mayor Hendrar.

The development of Taman Indonesia Kaya was completed in 11 months by PT. Idealand Cipta Hijau. The park will feature various programs such as free dance workshops and other performing art-related activities on a regular basis. The cultural stage is available to be utilized by art communities in Semarang, free of charge. (asw)
