Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has players learning spells and teaming up with their friends to battle creatures in augmented reality.
okemon Go developer Niantic Labs released the trailer for its highly anticipated mobile game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, on Wednesday.
In the teaser, the iconic Golden Snitch that Harry caught by accidentally swallowing it in the first movie, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, appears after an initial image that reads “REPELLO MUGGLETUM”, which could loosely translate into “to repel muggles”.
In the world of Harry Potter, “muggles” are normal, non-magic people. The charm is a muggle-repelling charm that keeps them from discovering locations that wizards would like to keep hidden.
The symbol includes what seems to be a giant M overlayed by a wand facing upward and marks that suggest the wand has just cast a spell. An “S.O.S.” logo that stands for the “Statue Of Secrecy Task Force” (the statute of secrecy refers to the agreement to hide magic from muggles), alongside flashes of the lightning-shaped scar seen on Harry himself, both alone, and used in the S.O.S. logo.
Flashes of an illustration of the Golden Snitch is followed by a “WIZARDS UNITE” text, stylized with three distinctly different wands pointing upwards. The trailer ends with the same “REPELLO MUGGLETUM” spell, verified by a signature that can barely be read.

The teaser is very short and does not reveal any gameplay mechanics, or how the augmented reality system will function. However, Engadget reported that "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will see players learn spells and team up with their friends to battle creatures in augmented reality".
Announced last November and made in collaboration with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and WB Games San Francisco, the game is to be released in 2019. Fans can subscribe for updates at this site. (acr/kes)
