The official teaser trailer for Disney's much-anticipated film The Lion King was released on Thursday.

The Lion King is a live-action/CGI remake of Disney’s 1994 original animated film with the same title. The original became the highest-grossing release of the year and won two Oscars and a Golden Globe.

The trailer begins with the original film’s opening sunrise scene, followed by a narration by Mufasa (James Earl Jones).

“Everything the light touches is our kingdom,” he says.

Two key characters are shown, namely Rafiki (John Kani) and young Simba (JD McCrary), while The Lion King’s theme song “The Circle of Life” playing in the background.

Other cast members include Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi and John Oliver as Zazu.

Iron Man director Jon Favreau leads the project, reported Variety. He previously helmed Disney’s 2016 live-action/CGI remake of The Jungle Book.

The studio also plans to release live-action remakes of Dumbo, Aladdin, Lady and the Tramp and Mulan.

The Lion King is scheduled to hit theaters on May 19 next year. (iru/kes)
