ian Sastrowardoyo has announced her collaboration with BASE Entertainment, signing on as co-producer for three films with the studio.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, the 36-year-old said this would be the first time she would be stepping into the role of a producer for feature films. Dian has signed on as a creative producer with BASE Entertainment, where she would be involved in three films over the course of three years.

"There's so much work behind the scenes that I didn't realize was involved [in moviemaking], such as making creative decisions and covering business aspects. So, I'm learning a lot as we go," Dian told reporters.

Expressing excitement for her new role, Dian said that stepping behind the camera had been something she wanted to eventually do in her film career.

The actress, who is best known from her starring role as Cinta in the 2002 hit drama Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (What's Up with Cinta?), earlier put on the producer's hat along with veteran Mira Lesmana and Wisnu Darmawan for Drupadi, a 2008 short film adaptation of the epic Mahabrata that she also starred in.

In addition to acting and producing, the mother of two also continued to pursue a higher education, gaining a bachelor's degree in philosophy at the University of Indonesia (UI) in 2007 and returning to earn a master's degree in economics in 2014.

To add to her list of accomplishments, Dian is now slated to produce her first feature film titled Guru-Guru Gokil (Crazy Teachers), a comedy written by 2017 Piala Citra award recipient Rahabi Mandra and set to go into production next year.

Shanty Harmayn, chief executive and also a producer at BASE, said this was a natural next step for Dian. The two have a professional history that dates back to 2001, as Shanty was a producer behind Dian's first film role in Pasir Berbisik (Whispering Sand) before the pair collaborated again in Banyu Biru (Blue Banyu) in 2005.

Shanty further said that Dian's extensive background in film as well as education in finance gives her an advantage of having a wide perspective to apply into her new role.

"We will try to make three completely different films in terms of genre because we both believe the market needs variety," Shanty said but kept mum on details regarding the remaining two films. (wng)
