Along with the drugs, the police said they seized a number of pieces of evidence from Steve, such as a plane ticket, an inhaler, a spoon and an access card to his apartment.
According to kompas.com, West Jakarta narcotics division chief Adj. Comr. Erick Frendiz claimed that Steve bought the drugs from an international syndicate. He also said that 100 grams of cocaine was considered a large amount.
“The suspect admitted that he only recently started to use cocaine in the past four months, in the amount of 8 grams,” Erick added.
The police said they are investigating how the drugs escaped the Netherland’s airport surveillance. Steve faces multiple charges under Article 114, paragraph 2 of Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics, which upon conviction would carry a term of imprisonment from five years to life, or the maximum penalty of death.
