ogyakarta's Pakualaman principality is set to hold a royal wedding, called Dhaup Ageng, at Pakualaman royal palace on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019.

The wedding between 26-year-old BPH Kusumo Bimantoro and 25-year-old Maya Lakshita Noorya is to follow the elaborate traditions of the royal Javanese wedding ceremony.

Kusumo is the eldest son of the Duke of Pakualaman, KGPAA Paku Alam X, who is also the deputy governor of Yogyakarta.

"We will invite government officials, including President Joko Widodo, to the wedding," Dhaup Ageng chairman KPH Indrokusumo told journalists on Wednesday.

The wedding procession is to be held on Saturday afternoon, while the reception is scheduled for the following day on Sunday, Jan. 6.

Dhaup Ageng head I KRT Radyowisroyo said that among the rare Javanese wedding traditions in the ceremony was the tantingan , a ritual that includes asking the couple on their readiness to enter the state of marriage.

During the wedding procession, around 750 VIP guests will have the opportunity to enjoy three beksan, or traditional Javanese dances: the Bedhaya Kembang Emas, the Wilayakusumajana and the Puri Melati.

"Bedhaya Kembang Emas was specially created by KGPAA Paku Alam X for the bride," said Radyowisroyo.

The bride and the Pakualaman royal family are reportedly to wear batik patterned with the Surya Mulyarja motif, which was derived from the philosophy of the Sestradisuhul manuscript, written by Paku Alam II in 1847. The Surya Mulyarja motif represents Batara Surya, a character in the "Asthabrata" that is described as scrupulous and generous, and who constantly motivates his students to pursue a life of prosperity, both physically and spiritually.

The public are also permitted to watch the royal wedding on a screen that the committee will install in front of the palace. (kes)
